Elevate Your Recovery with Pate’s Comprehensive Brain Injury Rehabilitation

At Pate, we’re dedicated to offering a wide range of rehabilitation therapies to our patients with acquired brain injuries. The brain’s intricate nature means that a traumatic injury or a medical event, such as a stroke, can impact various aspects of a person’s abilities. Identifying the most suitable therapies for an individual and tailoring them to align with the patient’s unique goals is a fundamental aspect of rehabilitation at Pate. Our ultimate aim is to deliver an optimized program that maximizes the results for your loved one. Your journey to recovery begins with us.

Neuropsychological Services

Neuropsychology plays a key role in guiding Pate’s rehabilitation program. In brain injury rehabilitation, the goal is to use this scientific knowledge to help create a program specific to each patient’s needs in order to create the best opportunity for recovery and independence.

Testing & Evaluation

This critical evaluation helps identify an individual’s strengths and weaknesses in brain functioning to guide treatment recommendations. Tests measure all aspects of brain functioning including cognitive skills, motor functioning and emotional functioning (which can be vulnerable to changes after various types of brain injuries and medical complications).

The assessment involves a review of records provided, interview with the neuropsychologist, interview with family/friends in person or via phone if needed, and formal testing.  The testing portion will vary in length depending on the reason for the evaluation. Testing is usually completed within one day, but may be broken up between two days if fatigue is a factor or other problems arise. Breaks are provided as needed. Please bring any needed prescribed medications, glasses, hearing aid or other devices that will allow you to perform your best during testing.

Pate Rehab does not provide neuropsychological evaluations for the following:

  • Late Onset Dementia (65+ years old)
  • Forensic evaluations
  • Children aged 15 and younger

Driver Rehabilitation Training and Evaluation

Pate’s driver rehabilitation training program employs Driver Rehabilitation Specialists certified by the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Services (ADED). The program is included at no-cost for all our patients who medically qualify and is also available to those outside of our care for a reasonable fee.

Driver Rehabilitation Treatment

The Pate driver rehabilitation program plan includes an initial driving evaluation on the road with a driver rehabilitation specialist to assess the individual’s current skills, and address any deficits that may require adaptive equipment. Our specialists then provide real, on the road training in one of Pate’s specially outfitted driver rehabilitation cars.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must already have a driver’s license
  • Must have a physician’s order stating the patient is medically, physically, and cognitively able to drive
  • Must require only low-tech adaptive equipment in order to drive (hand controls, spinner knobs, or other equipment that can be mechanically added)

*Pate’s Driving Program is not designed for patients who need high-tech adaptive equipment, such as voice activated systems or head-controlled units.

Assistive Technology

Pate Rehabilitation employs an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certified, speech-language pathologist who provides a wide range of assistive technology services to the community. On-site, Home Automation Labs at each location allow people to try out various devices which, when added to the home, can help make day-to-day tasks more manageable. Assistive technology includes equipment, software programs, and devices that can assist patients with communication, activities of daily living, home modifications, and environmental controls. In some cases, this service can be the difference between whether or not it is safe for a loved one to stay at home unsupervised.
