Rene C. first started therapy with RWW in December 2024, following a lengthy hospitalization over the prior 14 months with multiple medical complexities. She required assistance for all functional mobility when she first came home including assistance for repositioning in bed and was mostly at a wheelchair level.
Rene started back with RWW after her discharge home where she had goals centered around maximizing her ability to independently care for herself. Among her other long terms goals were wanting to participate in making Easter dinner, helping her daughter move out of college, and wants to attend a Red Sox game.
As of March 2025, Rene is now independent with household mobility with use of her walker and is working towards progressing her endurance and safety with community mobility. With improving strength and endurance, Rene has recently increased more consistent participation in various household tasks such as meal prep and laundry. She now goes downstairs every night for family dinners; she’s even made delicious bacon cheeseburger roll ups. Most recently, she and her family went bowling and she even won!
Rene states this about her therapists within RWW, “Both Meghan and Betsy push me, but both know when I’ve hit my ceiling and never push me to do more than that. They keep me honest in that I work as hard as I can work. I’m able to give 110% at every therapy session and I’m motivated to do the home exercises in between so I can do better in the sessions. I feel very supported.”
She goes on to say, “I think the biggest emotional aspect is my anxiety. I feel like it’s a hindrance to most of what I do but with the tools that I’ve received from therapy, in a lot of situations, I’m able to overcome that because I have a lot more confidence in myself.
I can do a lot of things for myself, and I feel like I will get back to myself. In the beginning I really questioned whether I would ever be ‘normal’ but now I feel like that is doable. I will walk without assistance, I will go grocery shopping, go on trips with my family, and someday I will be able to dance with my sons at their weddings. I cannot express my gratitude enough for this company and my therapists!”
