Therapy Program and Services

Brain Injury

As a leader in neuro rehab for more than 30 years, Pate Rehabilitation, an affiliate of Rehab Without Walls®, addresses the unique needs of people who have experienced an acquired brain injury (ABI) or traumatic brain injury (TBI). Pate has CARF accredited programs that offer maximal therapy each treatment day (up to 6 hours). Pate serves a variety of neurological disorders with specialized programs to best address unique needs and goals with a focus on maximizing independence. Our research guided and supported transdisciplinary approach combines multiple specialties to focus on improving what individuals can do today but also aiming to ensure sustainable long-term results, months, and years down the road.

Neurological Conditions

With all our rehab programs, we work with the individual and their family to set functional and personal treatment goals. We then create customized rehab programs centered around those goals.

Physical Therapy

Our team of physical therapists focus on restoring mobility and physical function to patients with brain injuries. The customized treatment plan also includes integration of specialized services such as home evaluations, wheelchair/equipment modifications, home safety training for caregivers, return to work evaluations and community outings.

Occupational Therapy

Our team of occupational therapists focus on person-centered and evidence-based treatment that helps people with brain injuries recover their ability to return to daily activities; from managing self-care and home responsibilities to work-related skills. The end goal is to help people gain confidence in returning to their preferred activities. Specialized therapies related to improving arm/hand recovery, visual impairments and cognitive changes after brain injury are integrated into treatment sessions to help promote independence with real-world, functional activities at home and in the community.

Speech Language Pathology

Our team of speech-language therapists specialize in assisting with communication and cognitive challenges after an acquired brain injury. The individualized treatment plan may include a range of targets such as addressing dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), problems with speech production, word finding skills, relearning social aspects of speech and a variety of cognitive changes. Treatment sessions strengthen existing skills while introducing compensatory strategies to maximize recovery for all patient goals related to home, community and/or work roles.

Vocational Rehabilitation

The goal of many patients in brain injury rehabilitation is to return to their jobs. Vocational rehabilitation focuses on integration of vocational activities that are relevant to the specific working environment the individual wants to return to. Vocational rehabilitation works side-by-side with other treatments like speech, occupational and physical therapy. Pate’s team approach means therapists from other disciplines work with the vocational counselor to use employment related activities in place of more generalized exercises. Pate can provide job site evaluations, job counseling, and determine if assistive technology could be useful in the work setting.

Assistive Technology

Pate Rehabilitation employs the first and only Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certified Speech-Language Pathologist in Texas healthcare who provides a wide range of assistive technology services to the community. Assistive Technology room is available on site to allow people to try out various devices which, when added to the home, can help make day-to-day tasks more manageable. Assistive technology includes equipment, software programs, and devices that can assist patients with communication, activities of daily living, home modifications and environmental controls.

Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a leading branch of brain science that studies how the structure and function of the brain relates to specific cognitive (thinking) and psychological (emotional) processes. Pate’s research guided neuropsychology driven model has led to decades of consistently leading outcomes. Neuropsychologists are integral members of our interdisciplinary clinical teams and also provide a range of services such as neuropsychological testing, cognitive therapy, and family education.

Return to Driving

Pate is one of the few programs to offer a driver rehabilitation evaluation and training program. Driver Rehabilitation Specialists, certified by the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Services (ADED), provide gold standard on-the-road training, as compared to driving simulators, to best prepare participants for real world conditions. The program is included at no additional cost for all Pate Rehabilitation patients who medically qualify and is also available to others outside of Pate Rehabilitation for a reasonable fee.

Counseling

As an additional layer of support, we provide counseling services that assists with an individual’s physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional disabilities to achieve their personal, career, and independent living goals in the most integrated setting possible. Support services are also provided to family/support person to help educate and assist with adjustment to a loved one who has sustained a brain injury.
