In December 2023, Brandyn’s life changed forever. He was working as a U.S. Postal Service employee when his postal truck was struck by another vehicle going 70 miles per hour. Brandyn had a Glascow Coma Scale rating of three, with a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple other injuries. His acute rehabilitation was extensive and in April 2024, he joined our residential program in San Marcos, Texas. He arrived in a wheelchair unable to stand even with a walker, disoriented, and had poor cognitive and speech abilities.
Brandyn aspires to be a coach, as he was deeply involved in athletics throughout his school years. With his fiancée and 3-year-old son by his side, Brandyn began his journey with our therapists to focus on his physical, cognitive, social deficits, and life transitions.
Along with traditional therapy, the treatment team incorporated many creative, non-traditional interventions tailored to Brandyn’s interests and goals. All activities were aimed at helping him return to his family, reenter the workforce, and resume an active social life.
These activities included:
After approximately 16 months of hard work and determination, Brandyn was discharged to return home with his fiancée and son. His progress was remarkable—he regained the ability to run, became fully independent in all instrumental activities of daily living, and even earned his driver’s license.
At Rehab Without Walls–San Marcos, we believe our creative, goal-oriented approach sets us apart. Our participants, families, and staff work together to form a unified team committed to success. Our culture of COMMUNITY—Caring, Committed, and Connected drives our successes each day.
May Brandyn’s story serve as inspiration to all of us. Set goals, challenge yourself, and think outside the box.
