Less than 6 months ago, Borden S. was physically inactive and largely confined to a recliner since suffering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a result of work-related injury. He was living at a long-term residential facility in Montana where he was “watching the time pass away”.
Well, today, he is sitting on the dock of the bay in Texas! At the time of admission to our residential program, our treatment team immediately hooked Borden into therapy by dismantling, cleaning, and respooling a crate of fishing reels. Although, he initially needed one-on-one assistance to follow directions and initiate the task, he successfully completed the activity with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Being an avid fly fisherman, our therapists assisted him in learning to tie dragonflies and used them for mock fly-fishing events.
Borden and staff members transitioned to spot-casting and simulating fishing during physical, recreational, and occupational therapy sessions. Then last week, he went fishing and caught his first Texas fish!
RWW San Marcos pride ourselves on individualized treatment and providing therapy everywhere!
