Every team member has a unique story about their path with us. These differences lead to innovative ideas and better decisions that make us successful.
Below are some examples of success stories from our team members who have advanced their careers at Rehab Without Walls and have a story to tell.
Christine Martin, Regional Director of Operations, joined the company as a Care Coordinator in 2015 in southern Maine. There, she supported adults with brain injuries through the MaineCare (Medicaid) brain injury waiver program, and helped launch and grow the Care Coordination program which served around 15 members in 2015 and now serves over 125 members.
In 2019, Christine was promoted to Director of Clinical Management, where she was proud to launch and manage the Maine Home and Community program. In 2022, she was promoted again to Executive Director, and then in January 2025, Christine landed another promotion to her current role. As a Regional Director of Operations, Christine’s territory expanded to include the northeast region. She now oversees four Home and Community programs (Biddeford, ME, opened in 2020, Portsmouth, NH, opened in 2023, Bangor, ME, opened in 2024, and King of Prussia, PA, opened in 2024).
Christine’s leadership abilities and passion for the rehab industry were evident from the start and led to her continued growth with the company. She enjoys working with patients in their natural environments, helping them live their best lives and achieve their goals. She states, “The support I have received and the collaborative approach not only locally but on a divisional level have helped me grow as a clinician and a leader.” She attributes the success of the Home and Community program to her amazing team and the support they have received. She is excited to continue to grow the program and support even more patients.
Shannon Oxton, Clinical Quality Services Manager, started her journey with Rehab Without Walls in October 2019 as a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist in San Antonio, TX. She worked for the San Antonio Home and Community program where she quickly fell in love with the company’s mission and has enjoyed that she could make therapy functional and fun in the community while doing activities that the patient wants to get back to doing.
Shannon has a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Florida and over 10 years of experience practicing Speech-Language Pathology in a multitude of settings, including home and community, inpatient rehab, outpatient, and skilled nursing. In 2020, she accepted a full-time position as a Program Manager. In 2022, Shannon relocated to Idaho, supporting her husband’s active-duty military service. She transitioned to a Clinical Recruiter role allowing her to stay with the company. Shannon’s adaptability and exceptional talent shone during this transition, and in February 2023, she was promoted to Talent Acquisition Manager. Then in October 2024, Shannon moved to her current role as Clinical Quality Services Manager where her commitment to patient care and vast experience is instrumental in advancing our mission. Growth opportunities with Rehab Without Walls have allowed Shannon to cross-train, gain leadership skills, and evolve her career into what it is today.
As a military spouse, Shannon reflects, “Thanks to the unwavering support, I no longer have to start over every few years when we move. I’m grateful to be able to bring my career with me wherever I go. At Rehab Without Walls, we understand the importance of supporting our military spouses.” Shannon states that she is empowered at Rehab Without Walls and her ideas are always heard by leadership. She has been given the opportunity to continue to make an incredible impact on both our patients and the Rehab Without Walls family.
Kaitlynn Richards, Community Relations Manager, joined the company as a Front Office Coordinator and served in that role for two years before her promotion. Currently, she works to build relationships and provide resources to the community to support the clinic’s growth.
Kaitlynn enjoyed her role as the Front Office Coordinator, serving as the first point of contact and using first impressions to form positive relationships that would support patients’ progress. She had a goal to one day serve as the Community Relations Manager, and is grateful for this opportunity to grow in her career and continue making a difference.
Kaitlynn enjoys the impact she is able to make working for Rehab Without Walls. She says, “I always come to work with a smile on my face, a friendly attitude, and confidence that Rehab Without Walls is the best place for the patients to be!”
Laura Jackson has been a clinician for 17 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She has served on various professional boards and committees throughout her career. She has also acted as a clinical educator and mentor. Laura has treated clients in a multitude of settings including schools, acute care hospitals, residential centers, and outpatient clinics. Since 2017, she has been a Speech Pathologist at Rehab Without Walls, Home and Community.
Laura has a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University and a master’s degree in communication disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas.
In her current role as a Clinical Recruiter, Laura combines her passion for the patients and her heart for fellow clinicians. She has had the privilege of providing functional patient-centered care alongside other expert clinicians at Rehab Without Walls, giving her the unique knowledge of a clinician’s day-to-day experience. She is passionate about educating and recruiting other clinicians and professionals that share the values and standards of Rehab Without Walls – to continue to make a positive impact in our patients’ lives.
Jeremy Bond, Office Manager for Rehab Without Walls, joined the company in February 2020 as a temporary Data Analyst for Human Resources at the Support Center in Louisville, KY. Jeremy’s dedication to process improvement helped earn him a permanent position as a member of the Cash Disbursements Help Desk in November 2020. In this role, he interacted with clients, employees, and vendors, assisting them with a range of payroll, timekeeping, and accounts payable issues. Eager to learn more about the business, he also worked as a manual payment processor.
Jeremy was promoted to Senior Payroll Specialist in August 2023 and again a year later to his current role as Office Manager supporting Rehab Without Walls in Lansing, MI. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Human Resources Concentration from Indiana Tech, Jeremy proved to be a valuable team member whose education, experience, and drive for excellence led to his career success.
Jeremy attributes his success with the company to his supportive leadership, opportunities to showcase his process improvement skills, and the career navigation support of the company’s very own career coach that helped him retool his resume, look for complementary internal job matches, and refresh his interview skills. Jeremy states, “My favorite thing about working for our company has always been our mission of helping people live their best life. That fits my belief system and my heart. I didn’t choose the path of a healer or counselor, but I am blessed to use my skills to help others.”
Sonya Smith, Executive Director, joined Rehab Without Walls in 2020 as a Physical Therapist and quickly demonstrated her leadership potential. By 2021, she was promoted to Director of Clinical Management for the Greater Los Angeles office, a role that saw her significantly contribute to the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation process and Electronic Medical Record Governance (EMRG) committee.
With 17 years of experience as a Physical Therapist, specializing in neurological conditions, she has worked across a variety of clinical settings throughout the region. Sonya earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) from Western University of Health Sciences in 2007 and has since been deeply involved in both clinical care and educational roles. Her passion for teaching and mentoring led her to serve as a Guest Lecturer for Azusa Pacific University and Lab Instructor for Western University of Health Sciences’ DPT programs earlier in her career, where she shared her passion for neurological rehab with future generations of physical therapists.
In 2024, Sonya was promoted to her current role as Executive Director for Southern California where she brings her wealth of experience, dedication, and commitment to furthering the mission of Rehab Without Walls and improving the lives of those with neurological conditions through compassionate, high-quality care.
Summer Olmsted, Executive Director, joined Rehab Without Walls in 2017 as an Occupational Therapist. Throughout her tenure, Summer has demonstrated exceptional leadership in numerous initiatives, including the pilot Return to Work Program, program development, and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accreditation process. She has been instrumental in providing administrative support and fostering a culture of excellence, all while helping to expand the organization’s reach and impact in Michigan.
Summer’s career has been dedicated to clinical treatment and program management across diverse settings, with a particular emphasis on neurological rehabilitation. She earned her degree in Occupational Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2001, later specializing in neurodevelopmental disorders through advanced pediatric training. Her career has been marked by her active involvement in research, particularly focused on neuroplasticity and its impact on functional neurology. This drive for knowledge and innovation led Summer to take on roles in education and research funding, furthering the development of cutting-edge techniques in neurorehabilitation.
In 2024, Summer was promoted to her current role as Executive Director of Rehab Without Walls Michigan where she leads with passion, innovation, and a strong focus on ensuring the highest standards of patient care and program development. With 24 years of clinical neurorehabilitation expertise, Summer offers a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to advancing care for individuals with neurological conditions. She is dedicated to maintaining Rehab Without Walls’ leadership in Michigan’s auto no-fault reform efforts and ensuring the organization continues to set the standard for excellence in neurorehabilitation services.
